Veneers in Westwood, NJ
Dental veneers are a popular way for individuals to solve multiple cosmetic issues they might be experiencing with their teeth and achieve the smile they desire. While our focus here at Starry Dental, PC is for people to maintain healthy teeth, we also understand that many people feel more confident when they have a smile they enjoy. Because self-confidence and esteem are so often tied to the smile, we, therefore, want people to obtain the best one possible while still healthy. This is why we offer dental veneers as one of our services.
What They Are
Dental veneers are thin shells that sit over the front teeth and are cemented in place. These veneers adhere directly to the tooth and can be shaped and colored to suit a person’s interests. They can create smiles that are brighter, whiter, and lack chips, cracks, or gaps that might be present on the regular teeth.
Veneers come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, so there is always something for everyone. The two most common types are made of porcelain or composite resin. A veneer can be placed on a single tooth, or a series of veneers can be placed on multiple teeth to create a fuller and more complete smile. When properly cared for, the veneers can last for up to 20 years.
The only rule when wearing veneers is to avoid chewing on hard materials, like ice cubes or nuts, as these can knock the veneers out of place or even cause them to shatter.
The Process
Once someone decides they want veneers, the first step is to scrape away ½ mm of the surface enamel of the teeth where the veneers will be placed. This is to create enough space for the shield so that it doesn’t disturb the natural form of the teeth and jaws. A mold is then taken to create the veneers, and the dentist will often put temporaries in place to protect the teeth.
Once the permanent veneers are made, the patient returns and has their teeth thoroughly cleaned. The veneers are then cemented in place and ready to use.
